Separate fares

Separate fares mean an individual payment by each passenger to the driver or other representative of the permit holder for the journey undertaken.

Payment may be made on the vehicle or in advance. It may also be by indirect means, perhaps in respect of other services (e.g. tickets to an event where travel is included), or as part of a regular subscription to an organization. Separate fares are not paid where the vehicle is hired as a whole for a set charge (which is not influenced by the number of passengers carried) and passengers, to the knowledge of the driver or permit holder, make no individual contribution.
